Understanding “Manual” Circuits Versus “Automatic” Circuits
When you size a standby generator, you have to consider not only the circuits that are manually used, such as your garage door opener, your coffee maker, microwave, TV, ironing board, etc., but also the automatic circuits which operate without your interaction.
Things like your furnace, sump pumps, refrigerator, etc. Several kilowatts of backup power are necessary to operate these automatic circuits. The 6241 supplies up to 14kW on either LP or NG. Half-load fuel consumption runs to about 1.9 gallons of propane per hour, or 177 cubic feet of natural gas per hour. Our estimators can expertly determine the appropriate size generator for you.
Most propane tanks, either above or below ground, are 500 to 1,000 gallons. Expect a propane-powered generator to burn 2-3 gallons an hour. A 500-gallon tank will power your home continuously for a week. A 1,000-gallon tank will last for 2 weeks.
